In seven years, Sanjay’s journey in social care has been a complete roller coaster. Leaving a career in hospitality and events, he took over a once great care home, faced with two embargoes, two warning notices and an Inadequate rating. The Close Care Home now has an Outstanding rating and counts titles like ‘Care Home of Year’, ‘Best Individual Care Home’ and ‘Small Care Provider of the Year’ among its many accolades. Sanjay is a passionate advocate of sharing knowledge and best practice in social care. The social care industry is misunderstood. People generally have archaic and outdated paradigms, cliches and stereotypes of social care and it is these very reasons which display the importance of engaging with care homes and the whole adult care sector. At The Close we have been able through good leadership to foster a culture where we want to celebrate the everyday and ensure that our residents live at the close and are active and engage in the lives. Leadership at The Close is about ensuring that every member of the team is confident in their impact on the residents’ daily lives, which are filled with care, compassion and confidence. The Close leadership model allows for involvement and inclusion in the process, making sure that our Close family are on the journey with us, making that journey as cohesive, exciting and joyous as the destination.
